The 28-man roster for Team USA’s basketball team was released today and there’s many new faces on the roster. Notably absent is the older veterans in the league; namely Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. Before you put your cape on, those 2 players would be 38 and 34 respectively by the time the 2016 Olympics rolls around. Given the injuries that have plagued them in the regular season…

New faces to the 2014-16 team include Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors’ golden boys. Assuming Deron Williams and Derrick Rose aren’t at full health, Curry and Thompson give Team USA’s coach Mike Krzyzewski some options in the backcourt. Other new faces, like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, add strong defense on the wings while  Anthony Davis and LaMarcus Aldridge can man the paint. USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo touted this team’s depth;

The roster is the strongest we’ve ever had.

Half of the team has never competed in formal competition on a mens’ national team. Some of the senior players will forego participating in the World Cup. Those roster spots open up the opportunity for younger players like Curry, Damian Lillard, and LaMarcus Aldridge to compete for the first time on an international stage
